Hola y Bienvenidos a esta edición de semanas del viernes un festin! I apologize for the long hiatus but I have been busy helping trustworthy, hardworking Americans find affordable housing. Some call it honorable but I think it's a calling.... Any who, who's hungry? I obviously am and am excited, nay, elated to bring you this week's feast. This week we bring none other than the world famous, and by world I mean the Twin Cities metro area, Lagos Tacos. Lagos Tacos is a Fresh Mex restaurant located on Lyndale in Minneapolis and also in Excelsior. They specialize in street tacos, large burritos and....blah, blah, blah ...let's just see how the food is...
Carnitas Tostadas
Fresh corn masa shells, salsa verde, lettuce, avocado & queso fresco
Woo, can you say fresh? Delicioso!! Very fresh tasting ingredients, chewy masa shell, and the carnitas were well seasoned and not dried out..aka moist. I like my salsa verde with a little more kick but then again I am Mexican. 3 out of 5 forks
Sweet Corn Cakes with Shrimp
Avocado, pico de gallo & salsa verde, sour cream
I used to date a girl named sweet cakes. These cakes were sweet, delicate, moist, and juicy, just like good ole sweet cakes herself. The shrimp were grilled and seasoned to perfection. 4.5 out of 5 forks (I miss you sweet cakes)
Walleye
Beer battered, chipotle mayo, cabbage blend, pico de gallo avocado & queso fresco
No joke, some of the best Walleye I have ever had was when I was a boy growing up in Juarez...these remind me of those...except deep fried. Not a whole lot of flavor here. 2.5 out of 5 forks
Al Pastor
Marinated pork, grilled pineapple and onion, salsa verde, avocado & queso fresco
The only thing I did not like about these Al Pastor tacos, was the absence of Al Pastor in the tacos. I could have wrapped the tortillas around the meat twice. Good flavor though, I like it sweet. 3.5 out of 5 forks
Chicken Tinga
Slow cooked w/ chipotle peppers, salsa verde, Lago rice, refried pinto beans, co-jack cheese, lettuce, pico de gallo & sour cream
Damn it! I love a good burrito and this did not disappoint. Luckily the smoke show of a waitress we had recommended we get smothered, which is weird cause that's the way I like it. We had spicy out and sweet in. The delectably chewy tortilla was doing all it good to keep the deliciousness from busting out of its flour cage. I say NO!!! Let the flavor be free. And run all over my plate…... That is how flavor was meant to be! 4 forks out of 5
Lagos Tacos will be a good addition to our fat kid restaurant rotation. The server was great and I am pretty sure she wants to friend me on Facebook. The food was good but was slightly disappointed in the tacos. I would however go back for the sweet corn cakes and the smothered burritos.
